Olde English Bulldogge Info

TEMPERMENT

Olde English Bulldogges are calm, but fearless and protective. These dogs are athletic, fierce-looking, and determined. Friendly and bold around its family and friends, but a fearless adversary to anyone who threatens its master or family and property. As a puppy, this breed likes to chew and should be supplied with plenty of toys and bones. Rawhides, soft rubber and stuffed toys are unsafe, for they are easily shredded or swallowed whole and should be supervised if offered. Olde English Bulldogges are so eager to please that they may overexert themselves in an effort to do whatever is asked of them.

HEALTH

The Olde English Bulldogge is a significantly healthier breed of dog than many modern Bulldog breeds. The Olde English Bulldogge is quickly becoming well respected in many working venues such as weight pull, therapy training, French Ring Sport and several others. They have become excellent breathers and do not have to be kept in an air conditioned environment on hot days. They not only possess excellent stamina and athletic ability, they can breed and give birth on their own. Artificial insemination is not a standard protocol when breeding Olde English Bulldogges, natural ties are the standard. Cesarean sections are only needed in the event of unexpected complications at delivery like with all breeds of dogs.

LIVING CONDITIONS

Olde English Bulldogges will adapt to almost any lifestyle from bachelors to families. They should be protected from the extremities of cold and heat (+30C to -30C), although they are not as susceptible as the AKC or CKC English Bulldog.

EXERCISE

They can be active dogs, however, they are equally happy with moderate exercise.  They can develop good muscle tone with only light exercise and a good diet. These dogs are naturally slow, and because of their unique structure, they should not be encouraged to jump or engage in strenuous exercise as young pups up to 15 months of age.
